What is "3-D Secure"?

"3-D Secure" is an international security standard supported by MasterCard (MasterCard "SecureCode") and Visa ("Verified by Visa"), used to verify the identity of cardholders during online payments. It was developed to reduce the risks of unauthorized card usage by third parties.

Who can use "3-D Secure"?

"3-D Secure" can be used by any cardholder or authorized user of a MasterCard (classic, credit, gold, and business) or Visa card. You do not need to acquire a new card to use "3-D Secure"; you can use it with your existing valid MasterCard or Visa payment card.

What are the advantages of "3-D Secure"?

"3-D Secure" brings a higher level of security to online purchases with cards, as it verifies the authenticity of the cardholder based on their personal message and password during each transaction. Therefore, the cardholder must ensure the confidentiality of their password, personal message, activation data, and other verification details provided for the purpose of using "3-D Secure" to prevent misuse. This system improves protection for both cardholders and online merchants against unauthorized card usage.

What do I need to do to use "3-D Secure"?

To use "3-D Secure," you must first activate it, which you can do easily during your first online purchase. No new hardware or software installation is necessary.

What are the terms of using "3-D Secure"?

The terms of using "3-D Secure" are provided on the first pop-up window during the activation process. Please read the terms carefully before activating "3-D Secure" and only proceed with activation if you agree with them.

How does "3-D Secure" work?

When activated and used on an online sales platform, "3-D Secure" verifies the cardholder's authenticity by checking the entered data against the secure server's stored information. Activation and further usage will only succeed if the correct data is entered.

All your data is securely transmitted over the internet in encrypted form and cannot be accessed by unauthorized persons.

How does the activation of "3-D Secure" work?

To activate "3-D Secure" for your payment card, you need to do so during your first online purchase. This process is quick and easy, with all necessary instructions and information provided in the pop-up windows.

What information/data is needed to activate "3-D Secure"?

To activate "3-D Secure" for your card, you will need to provide the following personal information:

  • date of birth and
  • tax identification number.

After entering the correct details, you will also need to set:

  • "SecureCode" password and
  • personal message.

Why do I need personal data to activate "3-D Secure"?

The provided information allows us to compare it with the bank's records to verify your identity and confirm whether you are the legitimate cardholder or an authorized user of the MasterCard or Visa card.

What is the purpose of the personal message?

The personal message is an additional security feature used to verify the presence of the website and ensure additional security during online shopping. It helps prevent online fraudsters from redirecting you to a fake website to steal your password details.

You create the personal message yourself during the "3-D Secure" activation process. The message will appear every time on the login page. When entering your password, always check if the personal message matches what you created during activation. If the message is different, do not enter the requested information and immediately close your browser, as the page may be counterfeit.

By using the personal message, you can always be sure that you are on the legitimate website.

How does shopping work with "3-D Secure" after activation?

If you have already activated "3-D Secure" for online payments, select "credit card" as the payment method and enter the required card details. After confirming the entered information, a new window will open, requesting your password. Enter your password only if your correct personal message is displayed on the screen asking for it. If the password is correct, the transaction will be confirmed and payment completed.

The use of "3-D Secure" is free for all MasterCard and Visa cardholders.

You need to activate "3-D Secure" for each payment card separately.

Can I change my password for using "3-D Secure"? What do I do if I forget my password?

For security reasons, the entered password must be exactly the same as the one provided during activation.

If you forget your password or wish to change it, click the link to change the password under the password entry field. You can create a new password by reactivating "3-D Secure".

If you have activated "3-D Secure" for multiple cards, check if you are using the correct password for the card in question.

You can use "3-D Secure" on any computer with an internet connection and a web browser, which is one of its main advantages. However, when shopping on public computers, be particularly cautious about security and privacy, as these computers are often targeted by fraudsters looking to steal card details.

What happens if I cancel my existing card due to loss, theft, name change, etc., and order a new one?

You will need to reactivate "3-D Secure" for the newly issued card.

What happens with "3-D Secure" if my card is regularly renewed (when it expires)?

You do not need to reactivate "3-D Secure" after regular card renewal, as the card number remains the same. Your password and personal message will remain unchanged.
