Brochures - Softcover Binding (Milled / Glued)

Fast and high-quality digital printing of brochures with soft cover.

Perfect binding - is great for Printing Extensive Publications!

Perfect binding - softcover binding (milled and glued) is a binding process in which a gluing machine mill the spine of the book block on one side and applies hot melt adhesive to it, while simultaneously folding the cover (4x) on the other side, and then presses and glues them together. Saddle stitching allows the binding of publications with a range of 40 to 700 pages, or a maximum spine thickness of 50 mm!

Technically, a brochure consists of two parts: the book block (content, insert, interior) and the cover (front and back cover). The book block is printed on thinner papers ranging from 90-130 g/m², while the cover is printed on thicker paper or cardboard, typically 300 g/m², which is then protected with a laminating film on the outer side. Due to the flexible cover, this binding method is also called soft binding.

Brochures are printed in full color or black and white, with the option of high-resolution printing (BW), suitable for publications with predominating photographs or more complex graphics.

Preparing a brochure for printing requires careful planning and preparation to ensure the final product looks professional and is functional. Each step in the brochure design process requires attention to detail and strategic thinking. To determine the purpose and target audience, consider what you want to achieve with the brochure printing.

With thorough planning and high-quality execution, you can create an effective and attractive brochure, so start by gathering all the necessary information you want to include in the brochure. Use appropriate graphic software (we recommend Adobe InDesign) to help with designing and laying out the brochure, and organize the content logically and visually appealing.
Brochures are typically printed in standard formats, most commonly A4 or A5, although a popular size is 165x235 mm.

Once the brochure is designed, the next step is to print it. First, you need to determine the type of paper to print the brochure on. You can choose from standard coated or uncoated paper, 100% recycled paper, or special creative paper. Each type of paper for the book block is available in various weights, ranging from 80-130 g/m².

After defining the paper type for the book block, the next step is to choose the cover, which is made from thicker cardboard (300 g/m²). Typically, the type of paper used for both the book block and the cover is the same, meaning both are made from the same material.

Since brochures are often handled, the cover should be protected with a laminating film, which is available in matte, gloss, premium soft-touch, and anti-scratch finishes. The latter is particularly suitable for laminating covers printed with darker colors.

We would also like to highlight the option to enhance the cover of the brochure. You can choose to apply a transparent embossed varnish (3D UV Spot) or digital foil stamping in metallic gold or silver. 3D effects not only look great but also improve the tactile experience, which can increase interaction with the product. This is especially important in the luxury product segment.
