Notebooks - Hard cover (Wire-o binding)

Hard chipboard covers provide excellent protection against damage and wear from daily use.

Notebooks with hardcover wire-o binding are aesthetically appealing and durable.

Spiral binding, also known as Wire-o binding, is a simple and quick binding method where holes are punched along the edges of the pages, and a metal spiral is inserted into the holes, creating a sturdy book block.

The greatest advantage of spiral binding is the 360° page opening, which is especially useful for catalogs, notebooks, workbooks, reports, and other documents where easy handling and navigation through pages are important. The spiral binding also allows the document to be fully opened and laid flat.

Spiral binding is suitable for publications from 4 to 240 pages (2 to 120 sheets), with the spine of the book block not exceeding a thickness of 22 mm.

Notebooks with hardcover are printed in various standard formats, in color or black and white, with the option of high-resolution black-and-white (BW) printing, which is an excellent choice for publications featuring photographs or more complex graphics.

Preparing a catalog for printing requires careful planning and preparation to ensure the final product looks professional and is functional. Every step in the design process requires attention to detail and strategic thinking.

Choose the appropriate graphic design software (we recommend Adobe InDesign) to make it easier to design and layout the catalog, and organize the content logically and visually appealing.

When printing with a bleed, don’t forget the required 3 mm trim allowance - Bleed, and the safe area - Margins should be no less than 5 mm, and we recommend 10 mm. The spiral area should have a minimum of 15-20 mm!
Once the notebook is designed, the printing follows. Before that, it is necessary to decide on the type of paper for the book block of the notebook. You can choose to print on standard coated or uncoated papers, and for those committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility, 100% recycled paper is available.

Unlike catalogs, notebooks have a hardcover made from 2.5 mm thick chipboard, which is laminated with a covering material. The covering material used is a coated paper with a weight of 150 g/m², which is then protected with a laminate film, available in matte, glossy, or premium soft-touch or anti-scratch finishes. The latter is especially suitable for laminating covers printed in darker colors. Next, you choose the color of the metal spiral, which can be white, black, or silver.

It is also worth highlighting the option of enhancing the cover. You can choose printing with a transparent relief varnish (3D UV Spot) or digital foil printing with metallic foil in gold or silver. 3D effects not only look good but also improve the tactile experience, which can increase interaction with the product. This is particularly important in the luxury product segment.

Spiral binding, due to its functionality and adaptability, is a popular choice in educational institutions, business environments, and for personal use, especially where ease of use and access to content are important. Combined with hardcover chipboard, notebooks are also an excellent choice for corporate gifts.
