Have you ever wondered why the label on a beer bottle is completely different from the one on a shampoo bottle? The reason lies in the material. Choosing the right label material isn't a random decision; it's a strategic one that affects a product's appearance, durability, and functionality.
The perfect label not only grabs a customer's attention but also withstands the conditions of its use. In this blog, we've broken down how to choose the ideal label material,
Based on the label material, we divide them into:
When should you choose them?
Advantages of Paper Labels
Types of Paper Materials
If you need a material that is waterproof and resistant to oils and chemicals, synthetic materials are the way to go. They are an excellent choice for cosmetics, cleaning products, the automotive industry, and any product that needs long-lasting durability.
Advantages of Synthetic Labels
Most Common Synthetic Materials
For these products, the label is the customer's first point of contact with the brand. That's why textured and premium papers are ideal—they add a tactile and prestigious feel. If you want to add a luxurious touch, metallized papers (gold or silver) are an excellent choice.
Synthetic materials (PP, PE, PETP, PET-G) are essential here, as they are resistant to moisture, oils, and chemicals. Clear films create a popular "no-label look" for shampoos, creams, and perfume packaging.
For fresh foods and logistics, standard papers and thermal papers are the most practical, as they allow for additional printing (barcodes, dates). For frozen products, you can even choose adhesives that hold at temperatures as low as -10°C.
Products that come into contact with aggressive liquids require the highest resistance. This is where PETP (polyester) comes in, as it can withstand extreme temperatures, UV light, and chemicals.
For technical components, appliances, and industrial products, synthetic labels with strong adhesives are used. They must survive long-term use, heat, and exposure to external elements.
If your brand focuses on sustainability and eco-friendly packaging, special materials made from recycled or even grass fibers are available.
A label is much more than just a piece of paper or synthetic material. It's one of the first and most important elements a customer notices. When making the right choice, it's not just about how the label will look but also how it will handle the challenges it faces on its journey to the end user.
As we've seen, the key to success is understanding the environment in which the label will be used. You might need the elegance of textured paper for a luxury wine or the indestructible strength of polyester (PETP) for an industrial product. Or maybe your goal is to convey sustainability with recycled paper.
