Classic print finishes offer a flat matte or glossy surface. MGI digital technology, however, adds a third dimension: touch. The combination of visual appeal and a tactile sensation creates an emotional connection that customers find hard to forget.
Have you ever held a print material where a specific element just shines and you can also feel it when you touch it? That is the magic of 3D UV Spot Varnishing. This embellishment involves applying a clear, raised varnish to selected parts of the design, creating a glossy 3D effect that is both visible and palpable. A plain logo or inscription suddenly becomes something that truly connects with you—literally.
How does the process work? First, the design is printed on thicker paper or cardboard (from 170 gsm and up) that can adequately support the raised application. For added protection and aesthetic appeal, we recommend lamination, which further enhances the contrast between the base and the glossy UV varnish. You can choose from various finishes:
Once the base is prepared, the digital application of the UV varnish follows, applied only to the selected elements: logos, titles, graphics, or decorative patterns. This creates a strong contrast between the smooth background and the raised shine.
Tip: The most dramatic effect is achieved on darker backgrounds, where the varnish almost "lights up." Technical Note: Because the varnish application has a small tolerance (±0.5 mm), we do not recommend using it on very fine text or extremely thin lines.

Instead of classic hot foiling, which requires expensive dies, the foil is applied digitally. This means faster execution, lower costs, and greater flexibility, even for smaller print runs.
